What are the Goals?

This training course on Transition to ISO 45001:2016 aims to help participants to develop the following critical objectives:

  • Why an ISO standard is being developed?
  • The process and timescales (potentially published in 2016)
  • Three new concepts being introduced
  • The potential impact on organizations with OHSAS 18001 certification
  • Recognize the differences between a program and a management system
  • Demonstrate leadership in the development and implementation of a health and safety/environmental management system
  • Understand the PDCA approach used in management system standards
  • Know the elements of a health and safety management system and an EMS and how to apply them
  • Identify the differences in elements of OHSAS 18001:2007 and the new ISO 45001 standard
  • Develop the necessary procedures, policies and other related documents required for OHSMS or EMS
  • Implementation in line with the new standard
  • Understand how to meet the requirements of the ISO 45001: 2016 standard

Day One: Personal Health and Safety

  • Overview
  • Why an ISO standard is being developed
  • Understanding OHSAS 18001: 2007 Regulation
  • Understanding the new requirements of the ISO 45001;2016 Standard
  • Identify the differences in elements of OHSAS 18001:2007 and the new ISO 45001 standard

Day Two: Understanding the differences

  • Health and Safety Management
  • Understand the PDCA approach used in management system standards
  • Recognize the differences between a program and a management system
  • Implementation of 18001:2007 as well as the additional requirements of ISO 45001 

Day Three: Relooking at the Management System

In the committee draft version of the ISO 45001, similar to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, there are 10 sections listed as below that are required to be understood

  4. Context of the organization
  5. Leadership
  6. Planning
  7. Support
  8. Operations

Day Four: Understanding the Requirements

  • Occupational Health & Safety Awareness
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Occupational Health & Safety Policy Statement
  • Auditor skills
  • Overview of Health and Safety legislative requirements Implementation techniques
  • Risk Assessment Methods (including HAZOP & HAZAN)
  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Non-conformity categorization and reporting
  • Planning, execution, reporting and follow-up

Day Five: Responsibilities and Action

  • Promoting Safety
  • Safety Committees
  • Health and Safety Training
  • Rationale for training
  • Verification & certification process
  • Q+A session / Close of week
